IRI Commends Senator Harkin on His Work to Strengthen Retirement Security in America

IRI CEO: “Expanding Access to Lifetime Income is Essential to Increasing Retirement Security for Millions of Americans”

WASHINGTON, D.C. –
The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) released the following statement from IRI President and CEO Cathy Weatherford after Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) unveiled new legislation, the Universal, Secure, and Adaptable (USA) Retirement Funds Act of 2014, earlier today:

"Much has been documented about the critical need to strengthen and improve the retirement preparedness of millions of Americans. We know that the precipitous decline in defined benefit plans has necessitated that workers become increasingly self-reliant to prepare for their financial future. We commend Senator Harkin for his work to strengthen retirement security in America, and his focus on the importance of lifetime income as part of a holistic retirement savings plan.  Expanding access to lifetime income is essential to increasing retirement security for millions of Americans, and we look forward to working with leaders on both sides of the aisle to identify sustainable retirement solutions for all Americans."
