STP Message Testing
An Easy-to-Use Tool to Ensure Compliance with STP Data Message Specifications
To implement the STP standards, users must first test their electronic data messages against a neutral, standard reference system. The Insured Retirement Institute Message Testing Service (MTS) is this tool.
These data messages, which were developed by the IRI Data Conformity Working Group, define a uniform data structure for sharing electronic information between insurers and distributors. MTS also provides a means of verifying and recognizing organizations using conforming data messages—which helps promote consistency and compatibility throughout the industry.
IRI members and nonmembers alike can subscribe to MTS. The subscription fee goes toward defraying some of the cost for developing and maintaining the message tool and the message-level business rules it uses. This ensures ever-greater conformity of message implementation—a benefit for all. In addition, the certification process uses this same MTS tool to authenticate that messages are valid and conforming.
