John Jennings is the Director of Government and Political Affairs at the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI). In his role, he assists the Chief Government and Political Affairs in the development and execution of the association’s legislative and political strategy. He is responsible for leading specific advocacy initiatives in conjunction with association members before the U.S. Congress. Jennings also manages the association’s grassroots advocacy program. His work implementing IRI’s strategy played a role in the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) recognizing IRI’s advocacy work with a “Power of A” Gold Award in 2020 and a Silver Award in 2021. In 2022, John was recognized as a Leading Association Lobbyist by Association Trends.

Prior to joining IRI in 2017, Jennings served as an aide to three members of the United States House of Representatives: Representatives Joe Wilson (SC-02), John Campbell (CA-45), and Virginia Foxx (NC-05). During his congressional tenure, he advised members on policy matters, managed constituent engagement programs, and supervised interns.

Jennings received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Hampden-Sydney College in 2012. He lives in Washington, D.C.
