2026 IRI Annual Conference Recap
At the 2026 IRI Annual Conference, industry leaders convened across multiple forums to align on priorities shaping the future of annuity operations and distribution.
The Digital First for Annuities (DFA) Steering Committee focused on strategic alignment around the industry’s transformation priorities. Discussion centered on where DFA adoption is delivering measurable impact, where partial implementation is limiting value, and what it will take to move from foundational modernization to true end-to-end operational transformation. Members explored how standardized, interoperable data is increasingly critical—not only for efficiency, but as the backbone for AI-enabled innovation at scale.
The Strategy Implementation Committee brought carriers, distributors, and solution providers together to discuss implementation plans and clarify priorities. The session began shaping a shared 12–18 month view of which standards the industry should actively advocate for, align on, or monitor—aiming to leave with a small set of priorities ready to move into focused working groups.
Two panel discussions expanded the conversation. Industry Transformation in Motion highlighted real world lessons from firms actively implementing DFA standards, emphasizing the importance of full automation, coordinated adoption, and clear distributor advocacy. AI and DFA explored how Digital First standards create the connected data fabric required for AI—unlocking intelligent automation, new decisioning capabilities, and scalable personalization across the annuity lifecycle.
Together, these sessions reinforced a common theme: the standards are proven—the next imperative is aligned execution and scaled adoption.

Digital First for Annuities Standards in Review
DFA is turning annuities into the kind of real-time, fully digital experience financial professionals already expect from other products—and the results are measurable.
Across the lifecycle, DFA standards reduce errors and NIGO, eliminate manual touchpoints, speed up processing, and provide real-time transparency that cuts service inquiries. Early adopters report cycle times shrinking from weeks to as fast as 24 hours, alongside meaningful reductions in rework, maintenance effort, and FTE costs.
In this overview, you’ll see the key benefits (revenue, cost, adoption, client experience, and automation) plus a clear “standards in review” table that maps each standard to the problem solved, outcomes delivered, business impact, and why implementing now matters. Click to explore what’s ready—and what’s next.

- Advocating: actively engaging carrier partners to prioritize implementation
- Aligned: supportive and ready when the initiative launches
- On Watch: aware and tracking progress
Whether you’re a carrier shaping your implementation roadmap or a distributor tracking your peers’ engagement, the Distributor Priority Dashboard turns member sentiment into actionable intelligence — built for the implementation decisions you’re making now.

New Digital First Playbook and Business Case Intake Are Now Live
The new Digital First for Annuities Standards Playbook is now live and provides a clear framework for how ideas move from industry need to published standard or best practice. It outlines the full lifecycle, including business case intake, Strategy Implementation Committee review, Working Group execution, Governance Subcommittee alignment, publication, and ongoing adoption, helping member firms better understand how to engage and contribute to the Digital First process.
In support of that launch, the new DFA Business Case submission process is also now available through the online intake form. Business Champions can use the form to submit cross-industry opportunities for new initiatives, enhancing existing initiatives or donating their own initiative for SIC review.
