Digital First for Annuities:
What We’ve Achieved and What’s Next
Innovation & Industry Momentum
The 2025 IRI Hackathon, hosted by Prudential Financial, delivered a powerful message: when we focus on real-world challenges, our industry can move quickly. In just a few days, teams developed working solutions, demonstrating not only speed, but that shared standards can succeed in practice.
Building on that momentum, Nationwide Financial will host the 2026 IRI Hackathon. The focus will shift from proving what’s possible to accelerating what works and scaling solutions across the industry.
Standards & Real-Time Infrastructure
In 2025, we launched a live Tech Library, a GitHub-hosted standards platform, and moved three standards into production, with carriers and solution providers already implementing.
In 2026, the focus shifts to depth with more standards, tighter interoperability, and more firms moving from pilots into production.
Making Annuity Income Visible
In 2025, planning platforms began integrating IRI Baseline Values to improve modeling and projections.
In 2026, Activated Annuity Income will make real payment data visible directly inside wealth management platforms.
Faster Issuance, Less Paper
In 2025, paperless replacements compressed the issuance cycle by 94 percent, bringing turnaround time down to roughly 24 hours.
In 2026, that same speed is coming to new business through fully digital submission and straight-through processing.
Fewer Errors, Cleaner Submissions
In 2025, real-time application status standards dramatically reduced call center volume.
In 2026, real-time financial professional training updates and prefilled ceding carrier data will target NIGO at the source instead of fixing it after the fact.
Advisor & Client Experience
In 2025, the focus was building a stronger digital foundation for financial professional readiness to sell and application transparency.
In 2026, that groundwork enables early rate-change alerts and the first wave of automated in-force servicing, starting with withdrawals.

Activated Annuity Income: adds payment amount, frequency, and last-paid details to support real planning conversations inside advisor tools.
