Joining IRI in 2020 as Director of Federal Regulatory Affairs for IRI, Emily Micale represents member companies and IRI federal regulatory priorities before regulators, including the Department of Labor (DOL), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and the Department of Treasury and Internal Revenue Service (IRS). She also serves as staff liaison for several IRI regulatory committees, subcommittees, task forces, and working groups related to IRI’s advocacy efforts and work streams.
Before joining IRI, Micale was a senior counsel at the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) in the Office of General Counsel and Policy Development. Over seven years with ACLI, her work focused on life insurance, reinsurance, captives, privacy, market conduct, and the interstate compact.
Micale began her legal career in private practice with a focus on corporate and tax transactions and a general business law focus.
Micale is licensed to practice law in New York, having graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Syracuse University College of Law in 2007, a BA in International Relations, and a minor in economics from the State University of New York (SUNY) Geneseo.
Micale lives in Northern Virginia with her husband, Shaun, and their famously cute dog Paddington. She enjoys travel, music, reading, and theater in her spare time.
